Cook Islands Sevens team prepares for Oceania meet

​The Cook Islands Sevens side will start its preparation for the Oceania 7s tournament which will be held in November this year.

The Cook Islands Rugby Union (CIRU) this week released the 22-member squad. 

In a statement, CIRU says the national 7s head coach Chris Roden will be visiting Rarotonga from August 4 to 7 to observe the local talent at the Cook Islands Games 7s tournament to be played on August 6 and 7 at the BCI Stadium.

Roden has also visited overseas Cook Islands 7s players in Auckland and Melbourne.

“Apart from playing in the local league and rugby union competitions, some of the local players have also been attending extra gym and cross-fit sessions to improve their strength and conditioning,” the statement says.

The Oceania 7s tournament will be held on November 14 and 15 in Auckland, New Zealand. Meanwhile, The Bond Store Rarotonga Club 15s competition will resume after the Constitution Celebrations.

The second round of the competition will start middle of next month. 

Defending champions Takuvaine Reds lead after an unbeaten run in the opening round of the competition.
