Apple adding middle finger emoji in iOS 9.1

iOS 9 isn't being dished out until next week, but we're already hearing details about its incremental successor, iOS 9.1.

The minor upgrade entered beta shortly after Apple's iPhone 6S launch on September 9, and MacRumours has spilled the beans about its contents.

The most notable new feature is support for Unicode 8, which basically means that you'll have some new emoji to play with, including that infamous raised middle finger.

Other new emoji include a taco, burrito, unicorn face, hot dog, popcorn, turkey and cheese wedge, in case your messages are missing any of those things.

The other new features will be of less interest to those on current-generation hardware, as they are specific to Apple's new products.

There's code in there that is required so the iPad Pro will work as advertise with the Apple Pencil stylus and its keyboard add-on.

With this in mind, a November rollout date for iOS 9.1 to coincide with the super-sized iPad looks like a safe bet.
