Digicel supports Special Olympics Team Fiji with $100,000 cash sponsorship

Digicel Fiji, your fastest LTE 4G+ data network, today announced its support of $100,000 cash sponsorship for the Special Olympics Team Fiji to participate at the Special Olympics World Summer Games in Abu Dhabi in March.

Digicel is the major sponsor of Special Olympics Team Fiji.

Digicel Fiji CEO, Mike Greig while signing the official sponsorship agreement said, “This is an on-going partnership which stretches years back to support Special Olympics Fiji in major events and now we are stepping up to support the team to attend the World meet.”

Special Olympics Team Fiji will send its largest contingent to the world meet with 21 athletes in five sports, supported by 14 strong volunteer team of managers and support staff.

Greig added,” Special Olympics is close to our Founder, Chairman and Interim CEO, Denis O’Brien’s heart and we are very happy to be given this opportunity by Team Fiji to partner with them in this great quest. It is an honour, not only to support your great talent as athletes, but also to see first-hand your hard work, dedication and determination – qualities which make you inspirational role models and ambassadors for Fiji. I thank your athletes and officials for your commitment to representing our country so proudly at the World Summer Games.”

Special Olympics Fiji Chairman, Bishwa Sidal expressed appreciation at the huge support tendered by Digicel Fiji to support Team Fiji to Abu Dhabi.

“2019 is shaping up to be a huge year for our athletes, each of who has worked amazingly hard to qualify for the World Games. We are thankful to Digicel for this great gesture and we are happy that you have come on board as our major sponsor.”

“We took a team of nine to the last World Games and won eight medals including four gold medals. This year we are taking a team of 35, competing in athletics, swimming, open water swim, table tennis and women’s 5-a-side football.” 

Team Fiji is due to leave for Abu Dhabi in the first week of March.
