Digicel provides new telemedicine facility for Suva Children’s Hospital

Digicel Fiji, your data network, today announced it has provided a brand new teleconference facility at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital’s Children’s ward.

Digicel Founder and Chairman, Denis O’Brien, who was in Fiji last week as part of a tour of Digicel’s Pacific markets, launched the new teleconference facility at the hospital in Suva.

Digicel worked in partnership with the International Women’s Association, a non-profit group to see this milestone project through.

Mr. O’Brien said, “Digicel has helped refurbish the doctor’s meeting room, provided free Wi-Fi and installed a brand new teleconference system which will now enable doctors in the pediatric unit to provide better patient care using new technology, and to make the best clinical decisions in relation to consultation and treatment”.

He added, ”Telemedicine is the way to go and to connect to Digicel’s LTE 4G+ superfast network, clinical health care from a distance will be easier for our medical professionals. This new facility will help overcome distance barriers and to improve access to medical services that would often not be consistently available. This will also help to save lives in critical care and emergency situations.”

CWM Children’s Hospital consultant pediatrician, Dr. Ilisapeci Tuibeqa thanked Digicel for this great gift to them.

“This will allow us to make hands-on practical decisions helping the full departmental visual aids to connect with overseas consultants to discuss a case or treatment. This will also help in conferences with doctors and consultants in other parts of the country and overseas. In the past, I would borrow the Medical Superintendent’s teleconference system, now this set up will allow our department access anytime, day or night and especially during emergencies to do a teleconference if needed.”

Digicel Fiji CEO, Mike Greig commented, “The children’s hospital needed new technology to keep up with the high demand for its services. Digicel is committed to providing the community with technical tools that enable services to work better for all parties involved.”
