Australian Minister on first official visit to Nauru

Senator Fierravanti-Wells' visit comes almost two weeks after Nauru President Baron Waqa’s official trip to Australia.

In a statement the Minister said she will meet with President Waqa and sign a new bilateral Aid Partnership arrangement, which focusses on promoting human development, critical infrastructure, and public financial reform.

Minister Fierravanti-Wells was pleased to announce two climate change adaptation investments while at SPREP.

Senator Concetta Fierravanti-Wells takes the position from Steve Ciobo, who is now the Liberal government's trade minister.

Ms Fierravanti-Wells was first elected to the Australian Senate in 2004, after a career as a government lawyer and policy advisor.

Julie Bishop retains the foreign affairs portfolio.
