PNG will take on favourites South Korea in the final match of Group A tonight (Sunday, November 20) at the National Football Stadium, Port Moresby.

The visitors have nothing to lose in Sunday’s game but PNG will be hoping to at least score a goal in the tournament on home soil.

Unbeaten North Korea is leading the group points ladder while PNG is yet to secure a win and put a mark on the score board.

In PNG’s previous encounters, the host nation was humiliated by Brazil in their first match 9-0 and defeated by Sweden 6-0 in the second match.

 In the earlier pool match, Korea DPR defeated Brazil 4-2, to remain the unbeaten team in Group A.

Sweden striker Blackstenius bagged a double to make host, PNG, trail 2-0 at half-time, and added another double in the second half to increase her match tally.

Sweden substitute Johanna Kaneryd and Anne Anvegard also scored a goal each in the match.

The home girls failed to play basic soccer with many passes going astray, giving the visitors a stroll in the park in front of 9, 123 spectators.

With a capacity crowd cheering the host country, PNG, inaccurate passes by the girls in the first 45 minutes gifted Sweden with all the ball possession.

 Blackstenius scored on the 8^th and 42^nd minutes using her height and size to her advantage.

The PNG side was starved of ball possession and had themselves to blame with many poor plays in their own half.

Brazil scored through Duda, Gabi Nunes, Brena, Yasmim, Katrine and Geyse.

The home team played hard in front of a sold out crowd of 12,547 supporters but lacked attack as the Brazilians took charge in the first five minutes, scoring their first goal 1-0 through Duda.

Five minutes later, Gabi Nunes found the net, scoring the visitors' second goal 2-0.

The Brazilians were on fire and wasted no time scoring their third goal through Brena 3-0 in the 17th minute.

A penalty against PNG's Margaret Joseph for tripping Brena gave Brazil a free kick.

This is the second match of Day One at the Sir John Guise Stadium.

The team was welcomed with a contemporary dance and fireworks display.

Prime Minister Peter O'Neill is also present to watch the match along with Sports Minister Justin Tkatchenko and FIFA Oceania and PNGFA president David Chung.

The home side, in red coloured jersey, is led by Captain Yvonne Gabong.

As a normal practice, the team captains did the handshake for peace before the match kicked off.

This was pointed out recently by sales representative from a kava processing company from Fiji called Niugini Kava whose popular market brand Kava Toks was showcased recently at the Madang Investment Summit.

 The company set up a stall at the Sugeng Aben Park near Madang Resort Hotel where it showcased products made from kava that originated from along the NCR in Madang.

An agent for Niugini Kava had been buying kava roots from smallholder farmers along the NCR and later shipping it overseas for processing and marketing.
