Tasmanian Roos hop north to prepare for 2021 season

The Roos have four of their squad of 30 hailing from the southern state, but Nicole Bresnehan, Mia King, Daria Bannister and Brooke Brown have now made the move north, having previously had a separate training base.

Ellie Gavalas and Britt Gibson are also from Tasmania but have been living in Melbourne in recent years.

"We're really keen to have a full-squad mentality, especially with the season building out a bit (to nine home and away rounds), so it's going to be really important to rely on all 30 girls," coach Darren Crocker told womens.afl.

Roos eye Walla's cousin in Mid-Season Rookie Draft

AFL.com.au understands the 22-year-old will meet with the Roos next week ahead of the Mid-Season Rookie Draft on May 27.

The cousin of Essendon's Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti, Adam will jet into Melbourne as one of 22 players invited to undergo a medical screening ahead of the draft.

Tipungwuti has impressed with his mix of speed and class in his five NEAFL matches this season after playing the bulk of 2018 at a lower level.

'Security' sees injured Roo get another year

Watson was last week listed as being one to two weeks away from returning from a ruptured left anterior cruciate ligament he suffered at training last July, but North announced on Monday he would not return for the rest of the season.

Watson, North's second selection in the 2016 draft at No.34 overall, told North Media he had felt pressure to play this year given he was out of contract, but said the club had eased his mind with a one-year contract extension.

Brad Scott looks to the long-term future at North Melbourne

When Scott first walked into North Melbourne as senior coach in late 2009, the club was – as he puts it – "in survival mode".

Scott chuckles when he relives the first moments: "We were still in the old facility, which was really a series of portables put together, and a ground which resembled a public park more than a sporting complex."

Replenished Daniel Wells ready to hit new heights

Wells tore apart the Kangaroos' intra-club match on Friday, slotting four first-half goals and displaying the poise of years gone by to warm the hearts of several hundred supporters at Arden Street.

The 31-year-old has seemingly overcome a nightmare run of injuries after frustrating foot and Achilles complaints restricted him to just 12 games in the past two seasons as the Roos reached back-to-back preliminary finals.
