Of this number 63 percent or about 4700 voters are aged between 20 and 40 years.

According to NEC, 52 percent or about 3800 voters are women.

Electoral Commissioner Joseph Cain said only 1.6 per cent are new citizens.

The Electoral Act provides Auto Registration so that all citizens of Nauru are able to vote.

Under section 50(3) of the Electoral Act, all auto registered voters turning 20 years of age by or on Polling Day which is set for Saturday, 24 August 2019 are required to vote in the Parliamentary General Election.

Taiwan's Central News Agency reported Nauru is the sixth Pacific country to sign such a deal with the nation.

The pact, titled "Treaty on Mutual Assistance in Criminal Matters," was signed by Nauru's Justice Minister, David Adeang, in Taipei on Wednesday.

It allows authorities in both countries to offer assistance to each other in criminal investigations, court proceedings and international crime-fighting.

The pact also allows investigators from both countries to form teams to conduct interrogations via video link.

This new partnership means Nauru Airlines will provide shipment handover services for DHL Express shipments arriving into Nauru, and a drop off service for any export shipments that DHL Express customers wish to send.     

The Oceania Rugby Cup (formally known as the FORU Cup) was first played across New Caledonia, Tahiti, Cook Islands and Papua New Guinea in 2007.  It is Oceania Rugby’s longest serving tournament.

The PNG Rugby Football Union (PNGRFU) will host the Oceania Cup for the next four years with Interim Chairman Sydney Yates saying that it is the perfect opportunity to grow the game in PNG, in light of the challenges surrounding the hosting of such events.

“To have the rights to host the Oceania Cup is indeed a huge boost to our morale,” Yates said.

President Baron Waqa told a special 25^th anniversary sitting of the assembly of the ISA in Jamaica that the regulations must be in harmony with the Convention on the Law of the Sea.

“They must balance commercially viable mining of the seabed with protection of the ocean ecology for the benefit of mankind as a while,” he said.

In March this year, the Legal and Technical Commission, a 30-member expert advisory body of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) released the draft regulations on exploitation of the mineral resources in the international seabed area.

Nauru’s Finance Minister David Adeang last week highlighted the need for Pacific island countries to explore new innovative ideas as global economies continue to face strong headwinds, due to the heightened US-China trade tensions and geo-political tensions, especially in the Middle-East.

“Global growth appears to be stabilising, and is generally projected to pick up moderately later this year and into 2020. However, growth remains low and risks remain tilted to the downside,” Adeang said.

This was highlighted by Nauru’s Finance Minister and Chair of the 2019 Forum Economic Ministers Meeting (FEMM), David Adeang during the meeting at the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat in Suva, Fiji Thursday.

Speaking during his opening address, Adeang told economic and forum ministers from the region that their meeting was held during a critical time when the global economy continued to face strong headwinds by the heightened intensity in the US-China trade tensions and the geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

The VNR was presented by David Adeang, Minister for Finance and Sustainable Development.

Since the adoption of the 2030 agenda in 2015, Nauru began the process of reviewing its National Sustainable Development Strategy (NSDS) to ensure that it is responsive to the changing needs and priorities of the Nauruan people.

The revised NSDS is also aligned with relevant global processes such as the SAMOA Pathway and 2030 agenda and provides a useful roadmap. The VNR is aligned to coincide with the review process to avoid duplicating efforts.

Nauru's Nitram Dagagio won gold in the under 74kg, with Papua New Guinea winning silver and Kiribati bronze.

In the 83kg category, Nauru also took gold and silver, with Tahiti winning bronze.

In the up to 93kg category, Nauru's Jesse Roland again took gold, with Tahiti (Miguel Hopuetai) taking silver and bronze going to New Caledonia’s (Frederick Warsdi).

Roland said: "I am very happy about the result, and of course this is what I was dreaming of - to take home my gold medal."

Mr Leung officially joined the authority at an event in Jamaica on Tuesday when he presented his credentials to the Secretary General of the ISA, Michael Lodge.

The ISA is responsible under the Law of the Sea Convention for managing the seabed and ocean floor beyond national jurisdiction. The Authority is currently spearheading efforts to finalise exploitation regulations which are expected to be adopted in late 2020.
