Don Polye

The matter came for directions on Thursday afternoon before the Supreme Court where instructions were issued for parties.  

Lawyers for Don Polye and Alfred Luke Manase will prepare a consolidated review book for both Supreme Court election petition reviews.

A hearing date will be set after next Monday for this review, which has been placed among cases to be fast tracked or prioritised by the Supreme Court.

Polye said in the short run, the loan will ease foreign exchange shortage but in the long run, it will make PNG’s economic and financial problems worse. He highlighted this during a media conference at Parliament house today.

He said O’Neill had destroyed PNG’s economic reputation overseas and had made unscrupulous lenders realise how desperate the Prime Minister is adding that the Credit Suisse loan is set at 7% interest in US dollars and the standard inter-banking interest rate (known as LIBOR) is about 1%.

Polye made this statement during a media conference at Parliament, adding that Prime Minister Peter O’Neill’s new Commission of Inquiry into the student unrest and police reaction would be expensive, biased and unproductive.

In a media conference this afternoon, Opposition leader Don Polye said: “Our people are very friendly as we are the Melanesian people and accept our visitors and friends with open arms.”

He said PNG is an interesting place to visit as there are many business opportunities and friendly people.

This is the second time PNG is hosting the ACP.
