Pacific Games Council not threatened by Asian Games invite

The Olympic Council of Asia confirmed at its General Assembly in Bangkok earlier this month that athletes from 17 Oceania nations would be eligible to compete in sports which will serve as joint Asia-Oceania qualifying events for the Olympic Games.

PGC President Vidhya Lakhan was present at the assembly where the OCA President, Sheikh Ahmad, said the next Asiad in Hangzhou, China would expand the relationship between the two regions.

The players - named by officials as Takuya Hashimoto, Keita Imamura, Yuya Nagayoshi and Takuma Sato - are said to have headed into Jakarta in national team clothing following Thursday's 82-71 win over Qatar.

In a news conference, Japan chef de mission Yasuhiro Yamashita said the four "spent the night in a hotel with women", while Yuko Mitsuya, chief of the Japan Basketball Association, declared that further sanctions were likely to be forthcoming.
