Mexico enters quarterfinals

They defeated Venezuela 3-2 in a close encounter at the Bava Park in front of 2076 supporters.

Mexico scored through Kiana Palacios and Teresa Gonzalez.

Venezuela scored both goals in the second half through Gabriela Garcia and Lourdes Moreno.

Mexico's forward, Kiana Palacios, scored a double to help her team take lead at half-time.

Mexico dominated the game, having more ball possession.

The girls in green and white made 22 attempts with 7 on target and 8 off target.

Germany keep their unbeaten run intact

Germany defeated Korea Republic 2-0 at Sir John Guise Stadium tonight in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.

German backline, led by Captain Rebecca Knaak, Pia Sophie Wolter, Isabella Hartig and Dina Orschmann, withstood their rival's attack.

Both teams had many chances in the second half to score but failed to hit the back of the net in front of 7,218 screaming fans.  

The two goals scored in the first half of the match were from the boots of Dina Orschmann and Stefanie Sanders.

The match is underway at the Bava Park in Port Moresby.

Mexico's forward, Kiana Palacios, scored a double to help her team take lead.

Palacios' first goal, four minutes into the game, was a superb header taken off a corner kick straight into the net, surprising Venezuela goal keeper Franyely Rodriguez.

Korea trails behind Germany

A defeat will affect the Asian team’s chances of making it to the next stage of the U20 Women’s World Cup.   

Playing under the flood lights at the Sir John Guise Stadium tonight, the Koreans felt the might of the Germans as they were put under extreme pressure from the start.

Germany turned pressure into points in the 12th minute.

Dina Orschmann put a well-timed kick into the back of the net. 

France through to quarterfinals

They defeated New Zealand 2-0 today at the Bava Park, witnessed by 995 supporters.

France scored through forward Marie-Charlotte Leger in the first half and Clara Mateo early in the second half.

Leger scored 17 minutes into the game.

The number 9 shot across 10 metres, out from the left of New Zealand goal keeper Nadia Olla, who was slow to stop the ball.

The French girls dominated the game, having more ball possession.

New Zealand was weak in attack throughout the game.

USA sends Ghana home

The Americans are now undefeated, heading into the quarterfinals to be played in Port Moresby on Thursday.

It was a scoreless second half of football in front of 3,076 spectators at the Sir John Guise Stadium this afternoon.

USA midfielder Katie Cousin was awarded the player of the match after another strong performance.  

The first goal of the match was scored within 20 minutes by Ghana striker Ernestina Abambila.

The striker hit a highball from the 18 metre out, which US keeper Cassey Murphy fumbled, resulting in a shock goal.

France lead New Zealand 1-0 at half-time

France scored through forward Marie-Charlotte Leger 17 minutes into the game.

Leger shot across 10 metres out from the left of the opposition's goal keeper.

The French girls dominated the game, having more ball possession.

New Zealand was weak in attack throughout the first half.

An additional three minutes was given.

French failed to score following an attempt by Sakina Karchaoui at extra time.

USA tie Ghana 1-1 at half time

Ghana, who is three points behind the Group C leaders, hopes for a chance to qualify for the quarterfinals.

With the stake high, the Africans dominated the first 10 minutes of this afternoon's match at Sir John Guise Stadium in Port Moresby.

Ghana striker Jane Ayieyam caused havoc for the Americans at the left flank with her runs.

Pressure turned into points in the 20 minutes from the boot of Ernestina Abambila.

The striker hit a highball 18 metres out, resulting in a shock goal due to fumbles by the US keeper Cassey Murphy.

Last round of Group C match underway

The New Zealanders, in white, are led by Captain Meikayla Moore playing under fine weather conditions in front of a good crowd of supporters.

Isabella Coombers, who scored a goal in the previous game of this tournament, is also on the starting line-up while Tayla Christensen, who also scored in previous match, is on the bench.

The French side, in blue, is led by Captain Dephine Cascarino.

Cascarino scored for France in their previous games along with Clara Mateo, who is also on the starting line-up.

France in must-win match against New Zealand

The European team will take on New Zealand at 4pm local time at Bava Park in the last match of the Group C round.

France is behind New Zealand by one point on the group ladder sitting in third place with two points.

New Zealand is second on three points behind leaders the United States on four points.

France is yet to register a win in the tournament with two draw matches against USA nil all in the first match and 2-2 against Ghana in the second match.

New Zealand has one win, against Ghana 1-0 in the first match, and a loss to USA 3-1 in its second match.
