PNG coach Cole relieved over first goal

Papua New Guinea U20 women’s coach Lisa Cole was relieved to see the home side score its first ever goal in the 2016 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup underway in Port Moresby.

PNG made their last appearance at the World Cup in front of 9,231 supporters on Sunday, November 20 at the National Football Stadium.

The home team went down 7-1 to top team Korea DPR in the last round of the Group A matches.

Cole said that there was a sense of relief from the coaching staff as they really wanted PNG to get a goal.

“I really wanted to see that the effort that the players put in was deserving of a small victory.

“Getting a goal against a top team like Korea DPR is remarkable,” Cole explained.

Cole recalled that there was also just an overwhelming joy from all of the players and staff when the goal was scored by PNG’s forward Nicollete Ageva.

The 18-year-old from Buka FC scored a memorable goal just 12 minutes into the game to level the score 1-1.
