Construction of the new multi-sports complex in Apia is ongoing in preparation for the 2019 Pacific Games in Samoa.
An aerial shot of the facility was posted at the Pacific Games website yesterday, showing the beams in place and its surrounding areas being cleared.
Local organizers said that it’s only a matter of time before the multi-sports complex gets its roofing and other features.
Badminton and netball games will be played at the new facility, which is expected to be completed in May or two months before Samoa hosts the Pacific Games.
The quadrennial competition will run from July 7 to 20 with 26 events to be contested by 22-member island nations.
The CNMI has initially committed to send athletes in swimming, athletics, canoe (va’a), golf, basketball (3×3), and weightlifting tournaments in Samoa, while the Commonwealth’s badminton group has also shown interest in playing in this summer’s competition.
Meanwhile, Samoa organizers have tied up with the National Health Services to develop a medical and health services plan for the Games.
A medical services subcommittee has been created to ensure the activation and oversight of all polyclinics and sports venues medical response teams.
