Former Warriors legend Manu Vatuvei to fight on Joseph Parker undercard

Warriors great Manu Vatuvei will lace up the gloves and leap into the world of professional boxing.

According to Stuff, the 32-year-old will take on Dave 'The Brown Buttabean' Letele on the undercard of Joseph Parker's bout with Alexander Flores at Horncastle Arena in Christchurch next month.

Event promoter Duco has called a press conference for Tuesday to announce the fight.

Vatuvei has recently returned from the UK, after an injury-plagued stint with Super League club Salford Red Devils.

An Achilles issue picked up in pre-season prevented him making a single appearance for the side and he was granted an early release from his contract in July.

Now back home in Auckland, the Kiwis veteran has worked with trainer Monty Betham and former heavyweight star David Tua to prepare for his boxing debut.

His opponent is a popular figure on the NZ boxing scene. Sporting a 16-3 professional record, he's been a champion for weight loss in the community, running exercise bootcamps.

Tongan and New Zealand international Vatuvei was a cult hero with the Warriors, where he scored 152 tries in a 226-game NRL career at Mt Smart.

Also on the undercard is Kiwi heavyweight Junior Fa, who will square off with Argentina's Rogelio Omar Rossi.
