Pacific Forum to raise concerns over court with Nauru

The Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) is seeking to raise concerns about the state of the Nauru judiciary with the country's president.

Nauru abandoned its court of appeal relationship with Australia late last year but is yet to establish a local final court of appeal.

The Forum's secretary general, Dame Meg Taylor, said she is seeking to discuss several issues of regional security with Nauru's president Baron Waqa in the lead up to the Forum leaders meeting in the country in September.

Dame Meg said Nauru's judiciary will be among them.

"The Pacific Islands Forum does have a role in this and we raised it with Nauru. In the next couple of weeks I've sought a meeting with the president of Nauru on various issues in preparation for the Nauru discussions," she said.

"I am hopeful also that other leaders will have discussions with Nauru during the meeting."
