Nauru to host 2020 Oceania Championships

Nauru Weightlifting Federation has won its bid to host the 2020 Oceania Championships.

“We got a bonus surprise when the Commonwealth Congress took place after and when India withdrew its hosting of the 2020 Commonwealth Championships, the Congress awarded the event to Nauru as well,” said Trent Dabwido in a post on social media.

Dabwido is the Secretary General of Nauru Weightlifting Federation and is in Samoa for the Pacific Games as well as the Oceania Congress.

“We will now be hosting both the Oceania and Commonwealth Championships next year 25 to 30 April. While the Executive Committee will be busy preparing for these Championships, I ask all our athletes now to train even harder so you will all perform at your highest level when we host these events,” he said.

Nauru weightlifters are certainly stamping their mark having won 3 gold and 2 bronze medals at the Pacific Games in Apia, Samoa.

Competition continues at Faleata Sports Complex.
