Stakeholders’ discussions on Nauru’s National Sustainable Development Strategy (NSDS) are expected to get underway soon.
The NSDS helps the government keep future generation in mind, and develop plans that consider, economic, social and environmental concerns.
The government says it is committed to taking a coordinated and participatory process to review its current NSDS (2005-2025).
“Underlying this effort is to the need to consider recent and emerging development issues including Agenda 2030 and the Samoa pathway.”
A Technical Working Group (TWG) has been established to provide technical advice and guidance to the National Development Planning Committee (NDPC) on the review process.
This will ensure that a truly participatory process is adopted.
The TWG is an interagency, multi-sectoral group and it will provide the platform for engagement and collaboration among the priority sectors as well as key stakeholders.
Earlier this week, the TWG met to discuss the consultation process and approach to ensure all key stakeholders under the priority areas are involved.
The NSDS Stakeholders’ Consultation expects to discuss the strategic goals of the NSDS and provide a forum for stakeholders to share development priorities and associated challenges.
The TWG plans to announce the commencement of the NSDS Stakeholders Consultation soon.
The government says there is a strong commitment to take an inclusive process to the review of NSDS, where voices of the people of Nauru will help inform and guide the long-term goals of the NSDS which ultimately affects them in the long term.
The Ministry of Finance’s Planning and Aid Division will coordinate the work of the TWG and continue to inform the public on the consultation process.
