Konrote sworn in as Fiji President

Fiji's President Major-General Jioji Konrote has been sworn in for his second three-year term today.

The Fiji Times reported the ceremony was presided over by the Chief Justice in Suva.

The event was attended by government ministers, political party leaders, members of the diplomatic corps, and NGO representatives.

Major General Konrote was reappointed in August despite opposition parties' protests.

They did not put forward a candidate as they were entitled to do under the Constitution, claiming the appointment was premature and parliamentary rules were being broken.

The retired military officer and former FijiFirst MP was first appointed in 2015.
