Palau readies for Festival of Pacific Arts

Minister Baklai Temengil-Chilton announced that Palau is readying itself to join the rest of the Pacific island countries in Guam for the Pacific Arts Festival of 2016.

Opening ceremony is slated for May 22nd, 2016.

155 participants from Palau consisting of various artists and performers have been confirmed, according to Minister Chilton Expected date of departure is 19 May on a charter flight. Minister reports that they expect to have everyone ready by then.

“Such large delegation is possible due to Guam’s proximity to Palau,” reported Minister Chilton.

Alingano Maisu, a double hulled outrigger voyaging canoe carrying 10 crew members and using only traditional navigational skills and know-how, is currently at Lamotrek heading to Satawal before it’s continuing voyage to Saipan and then to Guam, in time for the opening ceremony of the 2016 Pacific Arts Festival.

Pacific Arts Festival provides the opportunity to Pacific islands to showcase their unique cultural arts, talents and culture.
