Nauru rugby 7s down but not out

Despite losing all their games to strong opponents like Australia in last weekend’s Oceania Sevens tournament, the Nauru sevens rugby team is determined to be noticed on field in the future.

The team has been inspired by Japan’s stunning defeat of the South African Springboks during the World Cup.

At the Oceania tournament, Nauru managed to score tries against Solomon Islands and American Samoa in the pool play.

Tries were scored by Johnny Dagiaro, Jose Uepa and Vito Denuga.

Nauru was up against stronger teams like Tonga, Cook Islands, Samoa and Australia.

A total of 6 games were played in the tournament in New Zealand last weekend.

The team raised funds to be able to travel to New Zealand and be part of the competition.

Team members were also given a t-shirt each and cash from Digicel.

Australia and Fijian 7s teams have qualified for the Rio Olympics sevens tournament next year.
