Commonwealth to open climate financing

The Commonwealth is looking to open up Climate Financing for its member states.

The Commonwealth Secretary General Kamlesh Sharma made the comments while delivering his keynote address at the Pacific Islands Development Forum in Suva.

“Initiatives such as the Commonwealth Climate Finance to be launched by the Malta Commonwealth heads of Government meeting this November ,will allow Countries and regions to bolster their practical ability to access funds for adaptation and mitigation needs,” said Commonwealth Secretary General, Kamlesh Sharma.

Sharma says the Cop 21 conference in Paris is the ideal International stage to create awareness on the vulnerability of the region.

“The Pacific is one of the most vulnerable regions with the effects of climate change as we have heard. As the members of low lying small islands and affected by rising sea levels, there is therefore an urgent need for World Leaders to find a political solution to climate change and secure meaningful commitments to cut emissions in the Paris Cop 21 conference,” he said.
