Over 50pc of global tuna in Pacific!

The Pacific boasts more than 50 percent of global tuna and is home to the finest catches of seafood.

After years of participating in international expositions, a more reasonable step has been taken to bring international visitors into the pacific.

This has resulted in the first ever Pacific Seafood and Technology Exposition 2017, currently underway in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.

The event has brought together local, regional and international companies involved in the fish business.

It not only allows for those directly involved in fishing and processing but also suppliers of fishing gears and technology to showcase their products alongside the seafood on display.

The three-day exhibit is for the benefit of the pacific, creating a central location for buyers and sellers to meet and grow their network.

The exhibition, put together by the National Fisheries Authority and InfoFish, has a display of at least 50 booths, including a fair number of local SMEs.

The event was officially opened today by the PNG Minister for Fisheries Patrick Basa and Marshall Islands Minister for Fisheries Alfred Alfred Junior.

Located at the Sir John Guise indoor stadium, it will run through to Thursday, in parallel with the Pacific Tuna forum that starts tomorrow.

The intention is for this exposition to be held annually.
